“Yorgo & the World”

Play synopsis:
Yorgo is a charming young boy who has never left his house. Fearful of the outside world, he is content staying inside and spending time with his adorable dog Buttons. But one day upon awakening from a nap, he makes a startling discovery; Buttons is missing! Fuelled by love and courage, Yorgo finally decides to overcome his fears and leave his house in order to find his dog. He sets off on a journey which brings him to extraordinary places. As the adventure continues, he encounters a cast of enchanting and memorable characters, all of which are children. These include a flying monkey, a beautiful mermaid, a mischievous pirate, and a mysterious musician, among others. Yorgo eventually learns that the world is a friendly and magical place…but will he reunite with his beloved dog Buttons?
Information:
This show is 40 minutes long, and is animated by 2 puppeteers. It involves 6 string marionettes, various other puppets and props, and has an elaborate set consisting of 3 moving raised stages on wheels, with 15 backdrops. It also has its own original musical soundtrack. The dialogue is kept to a minimum as the show is quite physical and visual. The show can be viewed by small audiences, or larger ones, up to a maximum of 200-250 people, depending on the venue.
The play can be performed anywhere, but will require some space- the stage measures 15 ft wide and 10 feet deep, so the room should accommodate that as well as the children. Electricity is also required, and the mounting takes 1 ½ hours and the dismounting takes 1 hour.
